About
I received my PhD from the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University where I now work as an Assistant Professor. Before coming to K-State, I received my M.S. in Sustainability from Arizona State University and my B.S. in Natural Resources from Cornell University. You can find a current version of my CV here, and view a list of my publications on Google Scholar here.
My current work is focused in two main areas. First, a large portion of my work focuses on water resources in Kansas. This includes research into the impacts of novel technologies and policies on groundwater use, the impacts of extreme weather events on agricultural risk, the relationship between pre-planting soil moisture and yields, and using stochastic models to understanding changing precipitation patterns. In addition to my research efforts, I’ve created a data dashboard (available on the Kansas Water Data page) to help make information on water use in Kansas readily available for stakeholders. To that end, please reach out if you have suggestions for making the dashboard more useful or if there is additional data you wish were included.
The second area includes my research examining the land use implications of international trade agreements within a Computational General Equilibrium (CGE) framework. One of the main contributions of this work is the ability to disaggregate our CGE model to sub-national scales, allowing for a richer understanding of crop and livestock production responses to various policies. The paper describing our approach is available here, and the associated R package (named gtapshape) is freely available on GitHub if you would like to apply our approach to your own research questions.
You can find out more about my ongoing research projects and access some of the materials associated with them on my Research Projects page. On my Extension Materials page, you can access some of the materials I’ve created which adapt my research for an extension audience.
